Jeeeeez why can we not get anything done on Mondays?!<\/p>\n
Just a heads up: we had a bit of an incident at the end of the day that really threw some things off. \u00a0As such I did not get a chance to hand out interims or the information regarding parent teacher conferences. \u00a0That will go home tomorrow. \u00a0My apologies.<\/p>\n
So we started our day talking a good bit about our stories, and specifically the setting. \u00a0We talked about how we use our senses to understand the world around us.<\/p>\n
We see things<\/p>\n
We hear things<\/p>\n
We smell things<\/p>\n
We taste things<\/p>\n
We feel things<\/p>\n
When we are writing and describing our setting, these are the things we should be thinking about. \u00a0Are we describing what we want our reader to see? to hear? \u00a0to smell?<\/p>\n
We took out a graphic organizer, and then made sure that we were describing these things in our story. \u00a0We read them to our partners, and they\u00a0tried to pick the things out.<\/p>\n

Next we went out and measured our plants. \u00a0We had a LOT of growth over the weekend, and they are looking really good. \u00a0I just hope tonight’s storm doesn’t wash us out again \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n

Finally, we talked about multiplication, and how we can break down multiplication problems into easier sub-problems. \u00a0We did this using area models and the distributive property of multiplication over addition. \u00a0This is the property that essentially states:<\/p>\n
6 x 7 =<\/p>\n
6 x (4 + 3) =<\/p>\n
(6 x 4) + (6 x 3) =<\/p>\n
24 + 18 =<\/p>\n
42<\/p>\n

Tonight students have 4 problems to do just as we did an example:<\/p>\n
