Another good day!<\/p>\n

We did many more small groups this morning dealing with main idea, and Ms. Hertling came and assisted us as well. \u00a0We are really trying to get specific with our details. \u00a0This will also help us later when we need to find evidence and other specific information to support our answer\/our opinion.<\/p>\n

Tonight students have two pieces of language arts homework. \u00a0First, they need to answer some questions about the reading from last night. \u00a0As always, each answer should come with reasoning. \u00a0This means a sentence that explains why they picked their answer.<\/p>\n

In Science we took a quick quiz on the vocabulary from yesterday, and then introduced 5 new words that students should define tonight:<\/p>\n

Parastite<\/p>\n

In math today we had a long conversation about addition and subtraction. \u00a0We talked about how addition is combining. \u00a0We then talked about how subtraction helps us with two types of problems:<\/p>\n

Finding the difference<\/p>\n

AND<\/p>\n

Taking away<\/p>\n

I asked students to please think about how and why we use subtraction for two completely different types of problems like this. \u00a0For instance I could say<\/p>\n

I had 4 candy bars and Hsa had 7. \u00a0How many more does Hsa have? \u00a0He has 7-4=3 candy bars.<\/p>\n

I could also say<\/p>\n

Hsa has 7 candy bars. \u00a0I took away 4. \u00a0How many does Hsa have left? He has 7-4=3 left<\/p>\n

These problems are VERY different, and yet we use subtraction to solve them both. \u00a0Why is that?<\/p>\n

Today students took home information regarding our Academic Parent Teacher Team meeting. \u00a0The meetings is the evening of the 17th, which is next Thursday. \u00a0I would very much appreciate seeing everyone there. \u00a0I will probably bug you about this. \u00a0Apologies in advance!<\/p>\n

I have also set up a sign-up genius for parent teacher conferences. \u00a0There is a link at the bottom, and also up at the top under \u2018general links\u2019. \u00a0The majority of the times up right now are are either 7-8 in the morning, 4-5 in the afternoon, or 5-6 in the afternoon. \u00a0If these do not work for you please let me know. \u00a0If you give me a time that works for you, I will make it work for me. \u00a0If you don\u2019t sign up for one of these, I will probably also bug you about that. \u00a0Apologies in advance!<\/p>\n
