{"id":1096,"date":"2015-09-21T19:41:05","date_gmt":"2015-09-21T19:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1096"},"modified":"2015-09-21T19:41:05","modified_gmt":"2015-09-21T19:41:05","slug":"homework-sep-21-mon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1096","title":{"rendered":"Homework Sep 21 (Mon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today was a long day of writing, writing, and more writing!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We essentially went over the ENTIRE writing process we have been working on for short fictional narratives:<\/p>\n<p>We develop our character:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/CharOrganizer.pdf\">CharOrganizer<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We come up with some problems and possible solutions our character might face:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ProblemsAndSolution.pdf\">ProblemsAndSolution<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We pick a problem and solution, and then make a &#8216;handful&#8217; of a story. \u00a0We have had some real problems narrowing our writing down so we are focusing on five main events that tell a story for this round.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SequenceOfEvents.pdf\">SequenceOfEvents<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students should have their character intro from last week. \u00a0If not, they need to start with three paragraphs describing their character:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0What the character looks like<\/li>\n<li>Their background<\/li>\n<li>Something unique or special about the character<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After that, they should take\u00a0their sequence of events and use it as a guide to help them write their actual work. \u00a0Each event should be a paragraph at minimum.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SO, all of these things are due tomorrow:<\/p>\n<p>Char sheet\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/CharOrganizer.pdf\">CharOrganizer<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Problem\/solution sheet\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ProblemsAndSolution.pdf\">ProblemsAndSolution<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Character introduction: 3 paragraphs<\/p>\n<p>Sequence of events\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SequenceOfEvents.pdf\">SequenceOfEvents<\/a><\/p>\n<p>sequence of events turned into an actual story.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also talked a great deal about how we are not simply *listing* what happened in our story. \u00a0We are drawing out each event and painting a picture in our reader&#8217;s mind of what happened in those moments. \u00a0Our story should not be a simple re-listing of our sequence of events.<\/p>\n<p>After they are done writing, they should use this checklist to double check their work:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/EditingChecklist.pdf\">EditingChecklist<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is a decent amount of homework that they had some time to work on Friday and some time again today. \u00a0I expect it to take approximately 30 minutes to an hour to complete tonight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because of that, they should only work on this, and do their reading log tonight!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Rough draft of fictional narrative due tomorrow along with all graphic organizers and other little bits and bobs!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And read!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today was a long day of writing, writing, and more writing!
