{"id":1137,"date":"2015-10-27T20:18:56","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T20:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1137"},"modified":"2015-10-27T20:26:18","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T20:26:18","slug":"homework-oct-27-tues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1137","title":{"rendered":"Homework Oct 27 (Tues)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we were historians!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We talked this morning a good bit about how historians figure things out about history. \u00a0Historians look at books, newspapers, letters, and other artifacts from a time period, and use these PRIMARY SOURCES to piece together a story of what was happening during that time.<\/p>\n<p>This quarter we will be doing some actual historian work. \u00a0Today we got a few pages of primary-like sources. \u00a0We talked about how we need to be detectives, and use the sources to help us figure out the story.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students should use a primary source to answer these questions:<\/p>\n<p>Who: (who is this about? \u00a0Who is talking? \u00a0Who are they talking to?)<\/p>\n<p>What: (What is going on?)<\/p>\n<p>Where: (Where is this occurring?)<\/p>\n<p>When: (When is this happening?)<\/p>\n<p>Why: (Why is this happening?)<\/p>\n<p>The specific passage they should look at within this paper is &#8220;Your mouth is of sugar but your heart is gall&#8221; on page 10.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/indianscolonists.pdf\">indianscolonists<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also spent a LOT of time today talking about base 10, multiplying by 10, and dividing by 10. \u00a0We then looked a lot at decimals, and how decimals are simply another way to represent specific fractions. \u00a0We explored how we can represent something like 1\/4 as a decimal &#8211; specifically, 0.25. \u00a0We thought a lot about money in order to explain this. \u00a0Tonight students have some decimals to represent as fractions and as pictorial representations. \u00a0There is a page of examples as always!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DecimalHwk2.pdf\">DecimalHwk2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also ask your student about breaking up a dollar among 3 people. \u00a0What happens when you do that? \u00a0What happened when Mr. Potter tried to do that in class?? \u00a0Did he go crazy? \u00a0Did he grab the sides of his head and keep exclaiming &#8220;I STILL HAVE ONE LEFT!!!!&#8221;?????<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow we have Lt. Guthrie coming into our room to talk about drugs and bullying. \u00a0 Mrs. Carter, our class counselor has arranged this experience for us. \u00a0Last year Lt. Guthrie came and gave this talk to my students, and it went very well. \u00a0I&#8217;m sure it will be great again tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>summarize\u00a0&#8220;Your mouth is of sugar but your heart is gall&#8221; on page 10. \u00a0Answer who, what, where, when, why. \u00a0Be sure you can actually explain this short selection to someone. \u00a0This will definitely require MULTIPLE readings and probably a few questions to mom\/dad\/uncle\/grandma\/someone.
