{"id":1145,"date":"2015-10-29T19:53:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T19:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1145"},"modified":"2015-10-29T19:53:00","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T19:53:00","slug":"homework-oct-29-thurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1145","title":{"rendered":"Homework Oct 29 (Thurs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My apologies about not having an update yesterday. \u00a0I was feeling pretty awful, and we ended up having a substitute. \u00a0The substitute said that the students were fantastic, however, so that was good to come back to \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This morning we looked again at some primary sources, and real things native americans and colonists living in the 1600&#8217;s said. \u00a0Specifically we looked at these quotes:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">Colonies degenerate assuredly when the colonists imitate and embrace the habits, customs, and practices of the natives. There is no better way to remedy this evil than to do away with and destroy completely the habits and practices of the natives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>-Virginia Colony Promoter William Herbert, 1610<\/p>\n<p>and this one..<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">Since that you are heere strangers and come into our Countrey, you should rather confine yourselves to the Customes of our Countrey, than impose yours upon us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A wicomesse Indian to the Governor of Maryland, 1633<\/p>\n<p>We talked about these quotes and wrote them in our own words. \u00a0These quotes help explain that there was a definite culture clash going on between the European settlers, and the Native Americans. \u00a0Tonight students should look at these quotes (and their interpretation in their own words) and compare and contrast the attitudes of these two individuals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/PrimarySources.doc\">PrimarySources<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Compare-and-Contrast.docx\">Compare and Contrast<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next we got to go outside and look at our plants!
