What a weird ‘week’<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We are spending this week trying to fill in some gaps. \u00a0It’s hard to get much accomplished with just two days, so we are focusing on little things that often slip through the cracks.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For instance, this morning we started talking about how different pairs of numbers make ten. \u00a0This is extremely important as students can make good decisions about how to break numbers up to make them easier to work with.<\/p>\n
For example something like 15 + 7 is really easy if you think about it as:<\/p>\n
15 + (5 + 2)<\/p>\n
15 + 5 = 20<\/p>\n
20 + 2 = 22<\/p>\n
We did a fun little game where we did these in rhythm. \u00a0We’ll probably be doing this every morning for a few minutes.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Next we spent a LOT of time working on our rough drafts. \u00a0I was fairly disappointed with how many students did not get these done over the weekend, as it was their homework. \u00a0Of 23 students, only 8 finished these and had them ready to edit. \u00a0Those that were finished got some free time, while those that did not do their homework worked on this. \u00a0Even given that time, however, many students did not finish.<\/p>\n
Tonight students MUST get this rough draft finished. \u00a0We need to do peer editing tomorrow. \u00a0So tonight’s homework is simply this:<\/p>\n

DRAFT<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Those that did what they were supposed to (as in, did their rough draft over the weekend) only have to read tonight.<\/p>\n
