{"id":1272,"date":"2016-01-27T20:43:42","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T20:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1272"},"modified":"2016-01-27T20:49:22","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T20:49:22","slug":"homework-jan-27-wed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1272","title":{"rendered":"Homework Jan 27 (Wed)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A full day of school! \u00a0Hoorays!!<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, we do have school this Saturday, January 30th. \u00a0It is a half day makeup for Monday. \u00a0The buses will run at the normal time to pick up students. \u00a0School will run until 12:00. \u00a0There will be no lunch or recess, it is simply instructional time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So we started off this morning talking more about figurative language. \u00a0Specifically we talked about similes and metaphors. \u00a0We looked at a bunch of examples and found that both of these types of figurative language equate two different things that share a common characteristic. \u00a0The difference is that similes use &#8216;like&#8217; or &#8216;as&#8217;, and metaphors do not. \u00a0We agreed this was a fairly simple and easy to remember distinction.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have a list of sentences that use figurative language. \u00a0They should identify if each sentence is an example of a simile or a metaphor.<\/p>\n<p>On the opposite side is a list of simple sentences. \u00a0Students should take each sentence and practice making them a bit more interesting by re-writing them as a simile.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fig-Language-1.pdf\" rel=\"\">Fig Language 1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Science we talked about the weather and the different ways in which we could measure the weather. \u00a0Saying things like &#8220;it&#8217;s hot&#8221; or &#8220;it&#8217;s cold&#8221; are relative, because what you think is cold might be just right for me. \u00a0We decided we would need to have precise measurements to truly be able to measure and record the state of the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have a short passage to re-read (we read it together once) and some questions to answer. \u00a0As always, I expect reasoning!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Weather-Intro.pdf\" rel=\"\">Weather Intro<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally we reviewed some adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with decimals. \u00a0Adding, subtracting, and multiplying should be no problem at this point. \u00a0As for the dividing, I want them to use the play money and divide by making groups as we have done in class, and as we did last night on our homework.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have two new sets of decimals to do all of the operations on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Jan-27-Math.pdf\" rel=\"\">Jan 27 Math<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Tell me if it&#8217;s a metaphor or a simile, and write some similes of your own:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fig-Language-1.pdf\" rel=\"\">Fig Language 1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Answer some questions about the weather:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Weather-Intro.pdf\" rel=\"\">Weather Intro<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do some operations with decimals (use your play money for the division!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Jan-27-Math.pdf\" rel=\"\">Jan 27 Math<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And as always, read!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A full day of school! \u00a0Hoorays!!
