{"id":1279,"date":"2016-01-28T20:46:19","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T20:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1279"},"modified":"2016-01-28T20:46:19","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T20:46:19","slug":"homework-jan-28-thurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1279","title":{"rendered":"Homework Jan 28 (Thurs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another full day!<\/p>\n<p>I must say I am SUPER impressed with how well the students are working in class. \u00a0Our first few days back have been quite productive.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This morning we talked about hyperbole and personification\u00a0and\u00a0came up with some of our own statements using them. \u00a0Tonight students have some straightforward worksheets to complete identifying these two types of figurative language.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Hyperbole_Personification.pdf\" rel=\"\">Hyperbole_Personification<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also talked about metaphors and similes again. \u00a0Tonight students should write a simile\/metaphor poem. \u00a0They should pick something from their life (an object, something they own, friend, or family member) and then compare it to something else to start the poem. \u00a0The rest of the poem then explains why they made this comparison.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My mother is like an alarm clock.<\/p>\n<p>She wakes me up every morning.<\/p>\n<p>But she doesn&#8217;t go, Beep! Beep! Beep!\u30fb<\/p>\n<p>Instead, she yanks open my bedroom door and yells,<\/p>\n<p>Sleepyhead, get out of bed!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My dog is a cheetah.<\/p>\n<p>When someone leaves the door open,<\/p>\n<p>she springs out the door and runs down the street so fast<\/p>\n<p>no one can catch her without a helicopter and a tranquilizer gun.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also started reading &#8220;Love that Dog&#8221; in small groups , which is an absolutely fantastic story written like a poem. \u00a0Ask your student about it!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Math we reviewed addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with simple decimals. \u00a0Tonight students have another two sets of decimals that they should add, subtract, multiply, and divide:<\/p>\n<p>.45 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0.15 (add, subtract, multiply, and divide these!)<\/p>\n<p>2.4 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0.6 (add, subtract, multiply, and divide these too!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also have a bunch of quizzes tomorrow, as it is Friday!<\/p>\n<p>They will cover:<\/p>\n<p>What causes weather?<\/p>\n<p>Metaphors, Similes, Hyperbole, Personification<\/p>\n<p>adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing simple decimals<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Identify the personification and hyperbole<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Hyperbole_Personification.pdf\" rel=\"\">Hyperbole_Personification<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Write a metaphor poem<\/p>\n<p>Add, subtract, multiply, and divide these two sets:<\/p>\n<p>.45 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 .15<\/p>\n<p>2.4 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 .6<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And as always, read!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another full day!
