In a kenning, an object is described in a two-word phrase, such as \u2018whale-road\u2019 for \u2018sea\u2019. \u00a0We made a little kenning poem about teachers by listing things that teachers do\/how they act\/what they look like\/what they sound like. \u00a0This was VERY telling by the way \u2013 yikes! \u00a0Ask your student how they decided to describe teachers.<\/p>\n<p>This was our example\u00a0kenning poem. \u00a0Can you tell what it is?<\/p>\n<p>Egg layer<br \/>\nInsect betrayer<br \/>\nPeople scarer<br \/>\nTrap preparer<br \/>\nSilent creeper<br \/>\nDeath reaper<br \/>\nMeal storer<br \/>\nFly adorer<br \/>\nDuster hater<br \/>\nWeb creator<br \/>\nCorner hider<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students are to write their own kennings. \u00a0We will be putting these together to make a short little riddle poem tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Kennings.pdf\" rel=\"\">Kennings<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students also have left over work from their LA centers. \u00a0There are a total of two sheets. \u00a0In one, they identify the figurative language used in lines from poems. \u00a0In the second they read a poem and find figurative language inside of it as well as answer some questions about the poems tone and mood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/figurative-language-worksheet-07.pdf\" rel=\"\">figurative-language-worksheet-07<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/The-Black-Land.pdf\" rel=\"\">The Black Land<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also read a good bit more of &#8220;Love That Dog&#8221; and a LOT of &#8220;The Night Gardener&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In math we spent a good amount of time reviewing. \u00a0Students picked a set of math problems to do based on what they have to practice with. \u00a0Tonight students should study either addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division with decimals. \u00a0They should do the set of problems they were given and even make up their own problems if need be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Write some kennings:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Kennings.pdf\" rel=\"\">Kennings<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Find some figurative language:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/The-Black-Land.pdf\" rel=\"\">The Black Land<\/a><\/p>\n<p>identify some figurative language:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/figurative-language-worksheet-07.pdf\" rel=\"\">figurative-language-worksheet-07<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Practice whatever you need to practice concerning operations with decimals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And read!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Thursday!! \u00a0Which means tomorrow is Friday, which means&#8230;.
