This week is Math fill-in-the-gaps Week!<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We are spending this week doing some intensive math training. \u00a0We have a few gaps that we honestly *must* fill in before we can move on and be successful.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We will be working quite a bit on mental math and strategies for adding and subtracting numbers quickly and without the use of our fingers.<\/p>\n
For example, it is much easier to think of something like 9 + 7 as 9 + (1 + 6). \u00a0This is because 9 + 1 = 10, and then 10 + 6 = 16. \u00a0We will be doing mental math exercises like this all week.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We will also be doing a *lot* \u00a0of work on multiplication facts. \u00a0We have work to do with division, and it will make very little sense if students don’t have a very solid grasp of their multiplication facts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tonight students have a small math packet to complete. \u00a0Most of these may seem deceptively simple, but we are trying to build a solid foundation of skills so that things become more manageable and understandable for students.<\/p>\n
