{"id":1434,"date":"2016-05-03T19:56:20","date_gmt":"2016-05-03T19:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1434"},"modified":"2016-05-03T19:56:35","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T19:56:35","slug":"homework-may-3-tues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1434","title":{"rendered":"Homework May 3rd (Tues)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Important dates:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>May 12th: Field trip to the Durham Bulls<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>May 13th: Field Day<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This morning we talked a good deal about text structures, and I think we made a great deal of progress. \u00a0By the end most students were really able to pick out some words that often signal an author is using a certain text structure:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;First&#8217;, &#8216;next&#8217;, &#8216;finally&#8217;: These types of words usually indicate sequence<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Because&#8217;, &#8216;a reason&#8217;: These types of words usually indicate cause and effect<\/p>\n<p>dates or times usually indicate chronology<\/p>\n<p>I was quite impressed with almost everyone&#8217;s text structure graphic organizer from yesterday&#8217;s homework. \u00a0We&#8217;re getting this!<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have some questions to answer about yesterday&#8217;s passage. \u00a0And yes, I expect reasoning!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Soccer_Questions.pdf\">Soccer_Questions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They also have some idiom practice to do. \u00a0They are welcome to ask parents\/family for help on these as sometimes idioms are simply a you know it, or you don&#8217;t type of deal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Idiom_Practice.pdf\">Idiom_Practice<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also talked about the next step of our &#8216;My Success&#8217; project today. \u00a0Students will be filling out an education and career timeline in their google classroom. \u00a0They will be finding information about their career, as well as what education they will need in order to enter their field. \u00a0They will also research institutions where they can go to get the education\/training they will need. \u00a0We will be working on this quite a bit this and next week. \u00a0Links are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?page_id=1398\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In math we spent a great deal of time talking about area, perimeter, and dimensions. \u00a0We talked about what dimensions mean:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/UnitsOfMeasurementNotes.pdf\">UnitsOfMeasurementNotes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>and then did a good deal of practice finding the area of rectangles and triangles. \u00a0We&#8217;ll continue working on this throughout this week and next before moving on to volume.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students should do pages 36 &#8211;
