{"id":1444,"date":"2016-05-05T19:43:35","date_gmt":"2016-05-05T19:43:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1444"},"modified":"2016-05-05T19:43:35","modified_gmt":"2016-05-05T19:43:35","slug":"homework-may-5th-thurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1444","title":{"rendered":"Homework May 5th (Thurs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Thursday!<\/p>\n<p>That means tomorrow is QUIZ DAY!!<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow&#8217;s menu:<\/p>\n<p>figurative language, text structures, and idioms quiz<\/p>\n<p>forces and motion quiz<\/p>\n<p>area and adding\/subtracting\/multiplying fractions quiz<\/p>\n<p>HOORAY! \u00a0It&#8217;s gonna be great!<\/p>\n<p>Some quotes as I type this:<\/p>\n<p>Rafiekha &#8220;THE HORROR, THE HORROR&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cat: &#8220;Let&#8217;s watch Zootopia instead&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nevaeh: &#8220;STAR WARS&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Potter: &#8220;You guys are weird&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We will also be doing some things with fractions, and making spruce. \u00a0It will be fun \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today we got a good round of centers in, and talked about genres and sub-genres. \u00a0Students already had a good idea about fiction and non-fiction, and we talked about how most works usually fall into multiple genres. \u00a0We can have tragic comedies, realistic fiction, even horror comedies.<\/p>\n<p>In science we looked again at forces and the forces affecting us constantly. \u00a0We drew some pictures of systems of forces at work, and talked about how things might be different, say, on the moon. \u00a0We wouldn&#8217;t have air resistance for one thing, and the force of gravity would be much less. \u00a0Would airplanes or helicopters work on the moon?<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have a passage to read about asteroids. \u00a0They should write a short summary of the passage, and then pick ONE paragraph and analyze its text structure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/AsteroidAttack.pdf\">AsteroidAttack<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also went over finding the area of rectangles and triangles today. \u00a0We only had 3 today that didn&#8217;t get the triangles on the first try. \u00a0Tons of good, quick improvement!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have pages 46 &#8211; 51 to do in their Math Coach books. \u00a0These pages deal with the standard algorithm for multiplying multi-digit numbers. \u00a0We did some practice in class but most students still need a lot of work on this. \u00a0We are adept at using area models, so students should use area models to check their work here. \u00a0Try to compare your area model to the standard algorithm as we did in class and use what you know about area models to make sense of the standard algorithm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Read about asteroids, summarize, and analyze one paragraph&#8217;s text structure:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/AsteroidAttack.pdf\">AsteroidAttack<\/a><\/p>\n<p>46 &#8211; 51 in Math Coach &#8211; use area models to check your work!<\/p>\n<p>and read!<\/p>\n<p>Spruce tomorrow!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Thursday!
