{"id":1447,"date":"2016-05-09T19:39:10","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T19:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1447"},"modified":"2016-05-09T19:39:10","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T19:39:10","slug":"homework-may-9th-mon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1447","title":{"rendered":"Homework May 9th (Mon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week is going to be quite busy!<\/p>\n<p>Thursday: \u00a0Field trip to the Durham Bulls<\/p>\n<p>Friday: Field day!<\/p>\n<p>We spent a large chunk of our morning working on mathematics today. \u00a0We started talking about how we can take multiplication problems, and turn them into division problems by dividing by the multiplicative\u00a0inverse. \u00a0Which also means\u00a0we can take any division problem and turn it into a multiplication problem by multiplying by the inverse.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll continue talking about this a great deal for the remainder of the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>This morning we also did a LOT of work with area and perimeter. \u00a0We got out some tiles and made many different rectangles. \u00a0We did some puzzle problems, where we had to figure out rectangles when given area and perimeter but no dimensions. \u00a0I was pretty impressed that students were capable of figuring these out on their own.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have some corrections and some review in their math coach. \u00a0They should fix any mistakes they made on page 50, which we corrected today in class. \u00a0They should then do pages 52-53. \u00a0I would like to see area models AND the standard algorithm for these.<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts we are still working on being able to defend our answers with evidence from the text. \u00a0Tonight students should answer some questions about our Asteroid reading passage. \u00a0As always, i expect to see good reasoning!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/AsteroidAttackWithQuestions.pdf\">AsteroidAttackWithQuestions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because this one makes the most sense&#8221; is not good reasoning! \u00a0WHY does it make sense?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Math coach pages 50 (fix) then do 52-53 with area models and the standard algorithm<\/p>\n<p>Answer questions about the asteroid passage (with reasoning!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And read!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week is going to be quite busy!
