What a great day! \u00a0We got to negative 8 today thanks to the students being absolutely fantastic this morning.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow is interview day!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Students have been assigned an interview time with a teacher or administrator tomorrow. \u00a0They have written this time down and are responsible for showing up on time. \u00a0They are encouraged to dress to impress, and also to prepare themselves for the interview by knowing all they can know about their chosen field, and prepping answers to these three questions that each interviewer will ask (they might ask more though):<\/p>\n We talked about how good answers for these types of questions should be geared towards our career. \u00a0Don’t say you hate doing math if you want a job as an engineer. \u00a0Likewise don’t say you can’t stand dogs if you want a job as a veterinarian. \u00a0If you want a job working with computers, explain your experience with computers. \u00a0Be positive, and make sure your answers highlight your good traits!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In language arts we talked again about genres. \u00a0In our center work we have been making some mistakes when assigning sub-genres. \u00a0We seem to be pretty solid on fiction vs. non-fiction, but can get mixed up after that. \u00a0For instance just because a book about hurricanes is scary, doesn’t make it horror.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In math today we started talking about bar modeling with groups. \u00a0We found that sometimes if we are very careful and precise with our bar models, we can find the answer to somewhat challenging word problems quite easily. \u00a0For example we did this problem in class today:<\/p>\n BarModelProblem<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n We then talked about multi-step problems and how we would continue to use our steps (what is the question asking? \u00a0What do I know? draw a picture – solve) to help us solve them. \u00a0Tonight students need to work backwards, and take two sets of equations, and write a word problem to go with each set. \u00a0They will be writing a multi-step word problem that would be solved by these series of equations:<\/p>\n number 1:<\/p>\n 10 – 1\/2 =<\/p>\n 9 \u00a01\/2 – \u00a01 \u00a03\/4 =<\/p>\n <\/p>\n number 2:<\/p>\n 1\/5 + 1\/2 =<\/p>\n 3 – 7\/10 =<\/p>\n <\/p>\n At the end of the day, we had just enough time to finish watching Room on the Broom<\/em>\u00a0that was a leftover from our ice cream sandwich party. \u00a0Darn power outages!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n so, tl;dr<\/p>\n Come up with good responses for your 3 basic interview questions:<\/p>\n dress to impress!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Come up with two multi step word problems that would be solved by these sets of equations:<\/p>\n number 1:<\/p>\n 10 – 1\/2 =<\/p>\n 9 \u00a01\/2 – \u00a01 \u00a03\/4 =<\/p>\n number 2:<\/p>\n 1\/5 + 1\/2 =<\/p>\n 3 – 7\/10 =<\/p>\n <\/p>\n and read!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Have a good one,<\/p>\n <\/p>\n -Mr. Potter<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What a great day! \u00a0We got to negative 8 today thanks to the students being absolutely fantastic this morning.
