{"id":1550,"date":"2016-08-09T19:32:37","date_gmt":"2016-08-09T19:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1550"},"modified":"2016-08-09T19:32:37","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T19:32:37","slug":"homework-aug-9-tues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1550","title":{"rendered":"Homework Aug 9 (Tues)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Busy busy busy!<\/p>\n<p>This morning I was very pleased with the amount and the quality of the homework I received. \u00a0We had 25 of 28 students turn in all of their homework. \u00a0I knew this class was great. \u00a0I&#8217;d very much like to see those last 3 individuals turn in their work tomorrow. \u00a0 it was not just the homework being turned in that impressed me, but the obvious effort and thought that the majority of students put into their responses. \u00a0Homework is practice, but practice is only worthwhile if it is done purposefully.<\/p>\n<p>First we went over our base 10 talk from yesterday. \u00a0We talked about how base 10 is all about making groups of 10. \u00a0We also took some notes together:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Base10Notes1.pdf\">Base10Notes1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also went over some simple subtraction problems today. \u00a0We talked about the standard algorithm for subtraction, as well as the idea that there are multiple ways to solve any given problem.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts we did half of a word ladder sheet together. \u00a0if you&#8217;ve never seen a word ladder, they are vocabulary\/logic exercises that ask students to modify words step by step to form new words with different meanings. \u00a0Tonight students should finish this word ladder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/WordLadderAug9.pdf\">WordLadderAug9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also talked about writing letters, and I shared an embarrassingly simple letter I wrote the students. \u00a0I have asked them to respond and to write a letter to me introducing themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During recess today we had an unfortunate incident where some students teased another student by saying they liked someone else. \u00a0I made it very clear that in 5th grade we don&#8217;t discuss anyone dating anyone. \u00a0Nobody likes anyone in that way. \u00a0Nobody is asking anyone out. \u00a0Nobody will talk about such ridiculous things again. \u00a0We are too young for that drama, and too old for teasing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally we ended our day by Saving Fred! \u00a0This is quite a fun activity where students must make a plan to save Fred the gummy worm from the stormy seas by providing him with a life preserver. \u00a0Just ask your student about it!<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students should finish the Save Fred worksheet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Save-Fred.pdf\">Save Fred<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Finish the word ladder<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/WordLadderAug9.pdf\">WordLadderAug9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Write Mr. Potter a letter!<\/p>\n<p>Finish your Save Fred worksheet<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Save-Fred.pdf\">Save Fred<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And as always, read for 15 minutes and get your reading log signed<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Busy busy busy!
