{"id":1592,"date":"2016-08-18T20:03:08","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T20:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1592"},"modified":"2016-08-18T20:03:23","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T20:03:23","slug":"homework-aug-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=1592","title":{"rendered":"Homework Aug 18 (Thurs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Tomorrow is Early release &#8211; school dismisses at 12:30.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This morning we talked a good deal more about base 10, and about different ways to represent a number. \u00a0Many students had some issues with this problem from the last few days homework:<\/p>\n<p>750 = (__ x 10)<\/p>\n<p>This question is asking how many 10s it would take to make 750. \u00a0Many students mistakenly answered 5, as they were simply looking at the tens place in the number 750. \u00a0However there is an equal sign in there. \u00a0That means that the entirety of the left side of the equation must be equal to the entirety of the right side. \u00a0That will only happen if we are making the entire number 750 out of tens.<\/p>\n<p>We can also think about it this way:<\/p>\n<p>750 -&gt; we can think of this as 750 ONES<\/p>\n<p>If we look at the tens place, we can also look at it, and think&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">75<\/span>0<\/p>\n<p>75 TENS<\/p>\n<p>so, the missing value in our equation turns out to be:<\/p>\n<p>750 = 75 x 10<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I would highly recommend looking at these problems from the last few days. \u00a0Tomorrow&#8217;s quiz looks VERY much like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight in math students should finish their word problems from yesterday. \u00a0Again I want to see each problem worked out in steps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ProblemSolving_Notes.pdf\">ProblemSolving_Notes<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AddSubWordProblems.pdf\">AddSubWordProblems<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts we started up some reader&#8217;s response journals today. \u00a0Students will be responding to prompts in here, and also writing about what they choose to read on their own. \u00a0Today we did read an article\u00a0about Easter Island and the Moai, and students got some questions and a prompt. \u00a0This is *not* homework, but they may work ahead on it if they like.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll post more about these reader&#8217;s response journals later, but they will become a weekly assignment as students are asked to respond to what they have read. \u00a0The entire point is to get students thinking about what they have read so they can become better readers AND better writers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In science we continue to talk about ecosystems. \u00a0Tonight students have some short readings on ecosystems and some questions to answer:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/EcosystemsAug18.pdf\">EcosystemsAug18<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Answer the rest of your word problems using our five steps<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/AddSubWordProblems.pdf\">AddSubWordProblems<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finish your science readings and answer some questions:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/EcosystemsAug18.pdf\">EcosystemsAug18<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>wow, that&#8217;s not much at all, is it?
