{"id":401,"date":"2014-08-11T19:49:28","date_gmt":"2014-08-11T19:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=401"},"modified":"2014-08-11T19:49:28","modified_gmt":"2014-08-11T19:49:28","slug":"homework-aug-11-mon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=401","title":{"rendered":"Homework Aug 11 (Mon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The homework is, there is no homework!<\/p>\n<p>Except reading log!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We started out our day going over our math quiz&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>oh wait&#8230;Mr. Potter forgot the math quizzes on his desk at home.<\/p>\n<p>As well as all of the other quizzes, homework, and letters.<\/p>\n<p>I am quite disappointed in myself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So we actually went over our multiplication and talked about moving from our area model into the method that uses shortcuts (the standard algorithm). \u00a0We will slowly transition into this as the quarter progresses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next, we got into pairs and handed out tons of money! \u00a0We then played the roles of banker and boss, and took turns paying our employees their hard-earned wages. \u00a0Students were given a certain amount of money, and asked to split it among a group of people equally. \u00a0They utilized the bankers to make exchanges to ensure they could break up larger bills. \u00a0We will continue doing this for the week as we practice division, and we work to explain the standard algorithm for this mathematical process as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Science we talked some MORE about plants! \u00a0We talked about how plants have veins (called xylem and phloem) \u00a0similar to how human beings and animals have veins. \u00a0We got off on a tangent as we had to learn why our veins look blue\/purple when our blood is red, and learned that our skin tends to reflect\u00a0more red light than blue. \u00a0As such, the deeper the vein is in your skin, the less red light is reflected because less red light is actually making it to the vein. \u00a0The blue part of the spectrum penetrates deeper, and thus is reflected more easily. \u00a0The surrounding skin also reflects more red light, increasing this effect of the veins appearing blue when contrasted with the surrounding skin. \u00a0It was a pretty neat thing for us to learn!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts, we actually talked at great length about the writing process, and the stages that a writer goes through when producing a piece. \u00a0We did a little exercise involving play-doh, where we worked through the pre-writing to drafting to final steps in a parallel method with sculpting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-402\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/image-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"image\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/image-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/image.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, there is no homework as I felt bad for forgetting all of these things at home, and told the students this would be my &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry&#8221;. \u00a0They simply need to read for 35 minutes and get their reading log signed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I will be out of the classroom tomorrow as I have a math training to attend at another school. \u00a0We will have a substitute and there WILL BE HOMEWORK!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The homework is, there is no homework!
