Many of our students are making a lot of progress lately in math. \u00a0Now that we have established some goals, and what we need to work on, many of our kids are working with new purpose.<\/p>\n
Tonight we again have 3 math decimal problems to do:<\/p>\n
15.25 x 1.4<\/p>\n
7.4 x 2.2<\/p>\n
.04 x .2<\/p>\n
Students should do these as area models. \u00a0It is vitally important that students understand that when they multiply 4 tenths by 5 hundredths, the answer is 20 thousandths. \u00a0It is important that they understand that multiplying 2 tenths by 4 tenths gives them 8 hundredths. \u00a0Please do *not* try to teach them shortcuts, or tricks to solve these. \u00a0These are very important conceptual understandings that they need to possess.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In Language Arts we got so wrapped up in what is going on with the children and Mr. B that we read two chapters. \u00a0We’ll be finishing up this book near the end of the quarter, and it will give students an opportunity to take one last AR test for a good chunk of points.<\/p>\n
We really got into working with our biome brochures today in the computer lab, and the students are learning quite a few things about \u00a0navigating the Microsoft Office environment. \u00a0Ctrl + z is our friend!<\/p>\n
In Science we talked a lot about biomes, and how all of the living and non-living things in an ecosystem are connected. \u00a0We are making some good connections to our gardens. \u00a0We had a good discussion about how without decomposers and something to decompose, eventually our soil in our buckets will run out of nutrients to feed our plants. \u00a0I wonder what we’ll do then?!<\/p>\n
