{"id":559,"date":"2014-11-17T20:37:06","date_gmt":"2014-11-17T20:37:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=559"},"modified":"2014-11-17T20:37:06","modified_gmt":"2014-11-17T20:37:06","slug":"homework-nov-17-mon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=559","title":{"rendered":"Homework Nov 17 (Mon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tons of stuff today!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, we went into the computer lab and worked on our Goldilocks stories. \u00a0These are coming along nicely, and we are starting to add some pictures so we can make a little storybook.<\/p>\n<p>In order to do this, students are making cartoon pictures over at www.toondoo.com. \u00a0Today students made a login, and started playing around with the different options. \u00a0They are more than welcome to continue this at home, and they should have a good idea of how to create pictures and save them to their account to retrieve later.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next we talked a good bit about different shapes. \u00a0We&#8217;ve been doing a lot of work with area, and now we&#8217;re going to connect that to defining different shapes. \u00a0Eventually we&#8217;ll talk about how basically everything can be broken down into triangles (even circles!) which is kind of how trig\/calculus\/all that other stuff works.<\/p>\n<p>We also made a neat little shape out of straws. \u00a0Ask your student what shape it ALWAYS is, and what shape is it SOMETIMES.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight we\u00a0have a sheet full of shapes that they should define according to the notes they took in class. \u00a0Basically they should go from least-specific to most specific, naming everything that the shape is. \u00a0For example they shouldn&#8217;t just say &#8220;square&#8221;, they should say &#8220;polygon, quadrilateral, parallelogram, rectangle, square&#8221;. \u00a0If they need it, the little cheat sheet chart is here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/QuadrilateralHierarchy.pdf\">QuadrilateralHierarchy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the homework is here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ShapeClassificationNov17.pdf\">ShapeClassificationNov17<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts we talked about text structures, and the reasons an author would pick a specific structure to tell their story. \u00a0We took some notes on this as well, which focused on ways to spot different text structures. \u00a0Tonight students have a collection of short passages to read. \u00a0They should identify the text structure of each passage, and then fill in a short graphic organizer detailing that structure for each passage. \u00a0The notes and the worksheet are here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/TextStructuresNotesNov17.pdf\">TextStructuresNotesNov17<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/TextStructuresNov17.pdf\">TextStructuresNov17<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And before you knew it, we were out of time!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>One math worksheet, naming shapes (all the way from general to specific)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ShapeClassificationNov17.pdf\">ShapeClassificationNov17<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One LA worksheet, naming text structures<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/TextStructuresNov17.pdf\">TextStructuresNov17<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And as always, read for 35 minutes!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also, this week is McTeacher night. \u00a0If you come to the McDonalds on Wednesday night from 5-7, you might see me taking your order!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tons of stuff today! &nbsp; First, we went into the computer lab and worked on our Goldilocks stories. \u00a0These are coming along nicely, and we are starting to add some pictures so we can make a little storybook.
