{"id":569,"date":"2014-11-19T21:04:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-19T21:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=569"},"modified":"2014-11-19T21:04:00","modified_gmt":"2014-11-19T21:04:00","slug":"homework-nov-19-wed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=569","title":{"rendered":"Homework Nov 19 (Wed)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight is McTeacher Night! \u00a0If you want to see me slinging fries, just come to the McDonalds on the corner from 5-7pm. \u00a0A percentage of all food sold during this time will go towards our PTA funds!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This morning was again a lot of work with shapes. \u00a0Overall, most of the class is getting it, and I&#8217;m confident we can fill in the last few gaps in understanding.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, students have a sheet that looks VERY similar to their sheet from yesterday. \u00a0However, tonight students shouldn&#8217;t label the shapes. \u00a0Instead, they should list the attributes of each shape, in this format:<\/p>\n<p>number of sides<\/p>\n<p>number of pairs of parallel sides<\/p>\n<p>number of equal sides<\/p>\n<p>number of 90 degree (square) corners<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not looking for things like &#8216;square&#8217; or &#8216;parallelogram&#8217;. \u00a0I simply want the students to pay attention to the above attributes, and name them for each shape.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ShapeAttributesNov19.pdf\">ShapeAttributesNov19<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In case they need it, here again are those notes we&#8217;ve taken!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/QuadrilateralNotes1.pdf\">QuadrilateralNotes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We then had an absolutely bone-chilling 20 minutes of recess, before Mr. Potter (and most of the students) had enough. \u00a0We finished up our recess nice and cozy inside, with many of us playing some cards or board games.<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts we took a look at our paragraphs from yesterday. \u00a0Many students simply wrote down the problem (coral reefs are dying) and their solutions. \u00a0We had a talk about if this is really what we are going for when we are writing about problems and solutions.<\/p>\n<p>We figured out that if there is a problem and we are presenting our reader with solutions, then what we probably want to do is PERSUADE our reader, and we talked about ways to do that. \u00a0Tonight students should re-write their paragraphs, with an eye to persuade me that this is a real problem that needs addressing, and also that their solutions are good ones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ProblemSolutionPromptNov18.pdf\">ProblemSolutionPromptNov18<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students also received a new set of short passages to read. \u00a0They are to determine the text structure used with each passage, and draw a simple graphic organizer for each.
