{"id":762,"date":"2015-03-11T19:33:11","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T19:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=762"},"modified":"2015-03-11T20:23:50","modified_gmt":"2015-03-11T20:23:50","slug":"homework-mar-11-wed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=762","title":{"rendered":"Homework Mar 11 (Wed)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So we are still really struggling with multiplying fractions. \u00a0Many students are still caught up in the false idea that when we multiply we should end up with a bigger number. \u00a0Please never tell your students this, and if you have younger children, make sure they never think this!<\/p>\n<p>As we reviewed last night&#8217;s homework, there were MANY misconceptions and mistakes. \u00a0Therefore tonight we have more of the same in both Math and Language Arts.<\/p>\n<p>In math students have yet more fraction word problems. \u00a0They should try to draw a bar model or some kind of illustration to help them understand the word problems if they are having trouble.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Word-Problems-March-11th.pdf\">Word Problems March 11th<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Language Arts we revisited personification. \u00a0Many students are so used to expression like &#8220;time just flew by&#8221; that they don&#8217;t realize that time is an idea being given a human-like quality. \u00a0To get some more practice, tonight they have another batch of examples to analyze, and identify the personification within.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/personification-worksheet-2.pdf\">personification-worksheet-2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Science we got to talk more about cute little doggies running 1000 miles across Alaska. \u00a0We looked at a video of the area, and saw that our predictions of clear skies and possibly warming temperatures were indeed correct! \u00a0I was very impressed with many students&#8217; predictions. \u00a0Some even went so far as to write their predictions as if they were a weatherperson. \u00a0It was great.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students should write a new prediction about the weather in Alaska based upon this data:<\/p>\n<p>Winds from the North at approximately 5mph<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures of -20F, -29C<\/p>\n<p>The barometer is dropping, currently sitting around 102.6 kpa<\/p>\n<p>Radar and satellite shows a good amount of cloud cover and precipitation to the North<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They should come up with a new prediction for the weather, and write it in their science journal!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>math word problems: model them or draw a picture!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Word-Problems-March-11th.pdf\">Word Problems March 11th<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Personification examples<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/personification-worksheet-2.pdf\">personification-worksheet-2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Predict the weather along the Iditarod trail using the data we collected in our science journals!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As always, read read read<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So we are still really struggling with multiplying fractions. \u00a0Many students are still caught up in the false idea that when we multiply we should end up with a bigger number. \u00a0Please never tell your students this, and if you have younger children, make sure they never think this!
