{"id":787,"date":"2015-03-20T17:51:13","date_gmt":"2015-03-20T17:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=787"},"modified":"2015-03-20T17:51:13","modified_gmt":"2015-03-20T17:51:13","slug":"homework-mar-20-fri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=787","title":{"rendered":"Homework Mar 20 (Fri)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Homework on a Friday?!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Well,\u00a0not really. \u00a0But students MUST get some reading done this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I was very happy that every student that came in today had a rough draft to turn in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We spent our morning reviewing the math skills we had learned this quarter:<\/p>\n<p>finding equivalent fractions<\/p>\n<p>adding\/subtracting\/multiplying fractions<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We then just stuck our foot into the pool of dividing with fractions. \u00a0We will explore this a LOT more in 4th quarter, but today we just talked about how we can turn division problems into multiplication problems, and vice versa. \u00a0Just like we can turn addition problems into subtraction problems, and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p>4\u00a0<b>\u00f7 1\/2 = 4 x 2\/1<\/b><\/p>\n<p>3 x 4 = 3\u00a0<b>\u00f7 1\/4<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3 + 4 = 3 &#8211; \u00a0(-4)<\/p>\n<p>3 &#8211; 4 = 3 + (-4)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next we talked about figurative language, and what we know about onomatopoeia and alliteration. \u00a0I LOVE alliteration. \u00a0I have read Dr. Seuss&#8217; ABC book probably 100 times, and read the students some of my favorite parts. \u00a0We then wrote some of our own sentences about donuts, using alliteration. \u00a0It was distinctively delicious.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We then took our weekly math and language arts quizzes. \u00a0I was impressed with how most of the class really took their time this week, and many double checked their work. \u00a0I went on a tirade this morning about making sure you are actually answering the question that is being asked, and hopefully some of it stuck.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We quickly reviewed conduction, convection, and radiation, and then took a short quiz on that as well. \u00a0This is still a bit of a rocky area for many of the students, and we need to keep talking about it until they can process the differences and fit them into their own ideas about how things work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We closed our day with a trip to the computer lab where we took our STAR test. \u00a0These tests help us gauge students&#8217; vocabulary and language arts aptitude.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This weekend, students need to get finished with their third North Carolina Children&#8217;s Book Awards book. \u00a0They have three summaries (one per book) due to me by next Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They also have their final draft of their paper due next Friday. \u00a0I will read the rough drafts over the weekend, and give them back on Monday with any ideas for changes or corrections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Have a good weekend and read!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Homework on a Friday?!
