{"id":803,"date":"2015-04-23T19:31:46","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T19:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=803"},"modified":"2015-04-23T19:31:46","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T19:31:46","slug":"homework-april-23-thurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=803","title":{"rendered":"Homework April 23 (Thurs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning we got a LOT of work done.<\/p>\n<p>We spent almost an hour straight doing multiplication problems. \u00a0Many students weren&#8217;t quite 100% with the standard algorithm this morning, so we did quite a bit of practice to really get that whole process stuck in their heads.<\/p>\n<p>I must say it makes me very happy to see students more comfortable with things like partial products or the area model than with the standard algorithm. \u00a0It means they are capable of doing the problems in their tiny pieces, and they understand what is really going on &#8216;under the hood&#8217; of the standard algorithm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have 4 more problems to do. \u00a0They should do these just like they did yesterday: area model, partial products, and then finally with the standard algorithm. \u00a0Here again are the notes from yesterday in case they need them:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/StandardMultAlgorithmNotes.pdf\">StandardMultAlgorithmNotes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The four problems they must do are:<\/p>\n<p>356 x 6<\/p>\n<p>612 x 57<\/p>\n<p>274 x 33<\/p>\n<p>152 x 17<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next we talked about our vocabulary list, and how we are really bad at making sentences. \u00a0Most of this stems from a lack of grammatical understanding, and misunderstandings concerning parts of speech.<\/p>\n<p>We spent a lot of time talking about nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and how we use these different types of words in sentences. \u00a0If you know something is a noun, then they way you use it in a sentence is different from a word that is a verb.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Too often, we were getting sentences like:<\/p>\n<p>I edict in the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>Or<\/p>\n<p>I like to get a predict.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So tonight students have some homework dealing with identifying nouns, verbs, and adjectives. \u00a0They should also REWRITE their ten sentences for their vocabulary list.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Nouns.pdf\">Nouns<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Verbs.pdf\">Verbs<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Adjectives.pdf\">Adjectives<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Parts-of-Speech.docx\">Parts of Speech<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we talked some more about our poetry. \u00a0The students poems from yesterday were VERY impressive, and ran the entire spectrum from hilarious to horrifying. \u00a0We have some great poets in this class.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students should just make a quick acrostic poem. \u00a0Nothing too fancy, just something new for us to try.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>4 multiplication problems just like we did yesterday:<\/p>\n<p>356 x 6<\/p>\n<p>612 x 57<\/p>\n<p>274 x 33<\/p>\n<p>152 x 17<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Parts of speech exercises:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Nouns.pdf\">Nouns<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Verbs.pdf\">Verbs<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Adjectives.pdf\">Adjectives<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Parts-of-Speech.docx\">Parts of Speech<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also, one acrostic poem in their writing journals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, read for 35 minutes<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Not too bad. \u00a0Next week will start getting real though!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning we got a LOT of work done.
