{"id":898,"date":"2015-06-01T19:24:22","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:24:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=898"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:24:22","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:24:22","slug":"homework-jun-1mon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=898","title":{"rendered":"Homework Jun 1(Mon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are down to the wire here.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Important dates:<\/p>\n<p>Wed, June 10: Math EOG<\/p>\n<p>Thurs, June 11: Language Arts EOG<\/p>\n<p>Tues, June 16: Science EOG<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mon, June 29: 5th grade graduation ceremony<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony will start at 9am. \u00a0Please be seated before that (around 8:45ish) because we have to close the doors and start the ceremony promptly at 9. \u00a0The ceremony will take place in the Gym. \u00a0Afterwards there will be a short reception, and report cards will be handed out. \u00a0If you would like to check your student out after that, you are welcome to do so.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, we have just over a week until EOGs start. \u00a0That means we are doing quite a bit of review this week. \u00a0For that reason, students are assigning themselves their own homework this week. \u00a0We are spending our time during the day mostly at centers and doing small groups, and identifying what we still need to figure out before we leave 5th grade.<\/p>\n<p>This week is good practice for middle school. \u00a0Learning how to identify what you still need to study and work on, and then using your time wisely on those things, is a skill that they will use throughout the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students have a list of objectives, and they have rated themselves on what they do and do not yet understand in regards to fifth grade topics. \u00a0Then, based upon what they still need work on, they are assigning themselves pages in motivation math and motivation reading to work on. \u00a0Here is the list of pages they have assigned themselves tonight (with initials only):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Review-Week-Self-Assigned-Homework.pdf\">Review Week Self Assigned Homework<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students should be spending their homework time each night really focusing on these topics, and trying their best to figure out what is still confusing them. \u00a0We will continue this throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We spent some of our day in the computer lab, learning about the different things we can do with a word document to spruce up our poetry. \u00a0We talked about moving things around, text boxes, making things transparent, grouping, ordering, wrapping, and all that little stuff. \u00a0Students started making a short poem about an object, and using the things we have learned to either form their poem into the shape of that object, or to emboss their poem above a clip art picture of the object. \u00a0They have some really neat ideas!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Science we stayed in the computer lab and played some more with forces, acceleration, and speed. \u00a0We talked a great deal about how acceleration is the CHANGE in speed over time. \u00a0This means that an acceleration of zero means speed is not changing. \u00a0It does not mean the speed is zero. \u00a0If you are moving at a constant speed, your acceleration is zero. \u00a0If you are speeding up, you have a positive acceleration. \u00a0If you are slowing down, you have a negative acceleration.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to play with it some more, the website is <a href=\"https:\/\/phet.colorado.edu\/en\/simulation\/forces-and-motion-basics\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Students should completely finish their ecosystems review sheet tonight for homework.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>Do the homework you assigned yourself!
