{"id":94,"date":"2014-03-05T20:33:32","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=94"},"modified":"2014-03-05T20:35:17","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:35:17","slug":"homework-mar-5-wed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=94","title":{"rendered":"Homework Mar 5 (Wed)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We actually had a full day of school! \u00a0I can&#8217;t believe we still have those!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All sarcasm aside, we tried to get in a ton of stuff today.<\/p>\n<p>In math, we started learning about volume. \u00a0Volume is the amount of space that something takes up. \u00a0We measure this in cubic units. \u00a0We also started work in our volume center. \u00a0Students made different rectangular prisms with the same volume using pop-cubes. \u00a0We will be working more on this in the upcoming weeks, and expect some homework dealing with this soon.<\/p>\n<p>Our homework, however, is still focusing on fractions. \u00a0We talked about different ways of finding common denominators, and using an area model to aid us. \u00a0The students&#8217; homework tonight is three word problems that focus on using this area model to find common denominators and add or subtract fractions. \u00a0We did some examples and did the first question together. \u00a0The worksheet and first question can be found here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Will_It_Always_WorkMar5.pdf\">Will_It_Always_WorkMar5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Language arts, we talked about points of view, and how they can influence what the author can tell us. \u00a0We also talked about themes, and the messages that authors have for us. \u00a0Students read the three little pigs and then listened to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m75aEhm-BYw\">alternate version<\/a> told from the Wolf&#8217;s point of view. \u00a0Students then did a writing exercise where they wrote which story they believed to be true, and why. \u00a0How about you? \u00a0Do you believe the first story, or the Wolf&#8217;s side?<\/p>\n<p>I am giving students one more night to finish their ceed\/cede\/cess stories. \u00a0They are due tomorrow. \u00a0We had too many students who had not brought home their word lists and were out of luck due to the snow day. \u00a0The stories are due tomorrow, and we will have a quiz on the words on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In science we are still talking about motion and forces. \u00a0We talked again today about what brings a thrown ball to the ground, and what slows down the ball as it is thrown. \u00a0We watched astronauts hit a golf ball, and then somehow got into a conversation about the size of different stars. \u00a0I have no idea how that happened, but we cleared up some misconceptions about what stars are, and their size.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally we took a quick quiz on forces and motion. \u00a0I am expecting good things from this quiz, as the students have been pretty on top of things for this unit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>tldr;<\/p>\n<p>One math worksheet &#8211; all work done on a separate sheet of paper with fraction grids\/pictures<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Will_It_Always_WorkMar5.pdf\">Will_It_Always_WorkMar5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One ceed\/cede\/ces story, using all 10 words<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good day!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We actually had a full day of school! \u00a0I can&#8217;t believe we still have those! &nbsp; All sarcasm aside, we tried to get in a ton of stuff today.
