{"id":988,"date":"2015-08-11T19:36:04","date_gmt":"2015-08-11T19:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=988"},"modified":"2015-08-11T19:36:04","modified_gmt":"2015-08-11T19:36:04","slug":"homework-aug-11-tues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=988","title":{"rendered":"Homework Aug 11 (Tues)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>boooo rain!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So unfortunately we didn&#8217;t get a chance to go outside today to measure our plants, but hopefully we can start that tomorrow!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We spent our morning talking more about elements of stories, and we read Lilly&#8217;s Plastic Purse again. \u00a0We identified the character, plot, conflict, setting, and theme of the story. \u00a0We had some really good discussion about the theme, and people had different ideas. \u00a0Many of them were very good. \u00a0We agreed that themes can be open to interpretation, and may not necessarily be wrong as long as we can back them up with evidence from the text.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students should do their reading log, and then fill out a graphic organizer talking about story elements from what they have read. \u00a0I realize they may not read a part that has the conflict, or have read enough to recognize a theme. \u00a0They should do their best filling out what parts of the organizer that they can. \u00a0They should definitely be able to identify the characters, setting, and some important events.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/StoryElements.pdf\">StoryElements<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We talked a LOT today about producers, consumers, and decomposers. \u00a0We thought about what would happen without any decomposers. \u00a0Eventually we would use up all of the food and nutrients, and we would all cease to exist. \u00a0Decomposers help recycle the nutrients that have been used by living things. \u00a0We also watched a short video on decomposition that the students agreed was positively disgusting. \u00a0Make sure you ask them about it. \u00a0I think it was FANTASTIC.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight students have a quick reading and some questions to answer:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/PlantsAsProducers.pdf\">PlantsAsProducers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, we talked a good bit about our homework from yesterday and what we are doing breaking down numbers. \u00a0We got out some manipulatives and talked about the steps of breaking down numbers. \u00a0Tonight students should do three simple subtraction problems and draw some pictures explaining what is going on. \u00a0Here are some examples we did.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug11Example.pdf\">Aug11Example<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tonight they should do these 3 problems in the same way:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug11Math.pdf\">Aug11Math<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And yes, they MUST include the unhappy and happy faces!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>so, tl;dr<\/p>\n<p>story elements of what you are reading tonight:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/StoryElements.pdf\">StoryElements<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Plants are Producers:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/PlantsAsProducers.pdf\">PlantsAsProducers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>3 problems with faces!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug11Math.pdf\">Aug11Math<\/a><\/p>\n<p>examples:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug11Example.pdf\">Aug11Example<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And as always, read for 35 minutes and get your reading log signed!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>boooo rain!
