{"id":99,"date":"2014-03-06T20:24:37","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T20:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=99"},"modified":"2014-03-06T20:30:28","modified_gmt":"2014-03-06T20:30:28","slug":"homework-mar-6-thurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/?p=99","title":{"rendered":"Homework Mar 6 (Thurs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another full day of school. \u00a0I could get used to this. \u00a0The weather forecast says rain tonight, but above freezing. \u00a0Keep your fingers crossed for us please!<\/p>\n<p>Today we talked again about volume, and the students did very well finding the volumes of different rectangular prisms and finding the sides of a rectangular prism given the volume. \u00a0I was very impressed that they are picking this up so quickly. \u00a0We also worked a bit on how to draw a 3D rectangular prism ourselves. \u00a0Ask your student if they can do it for you!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The math homework is an extension of the homework from last night. \u00a0It again asks the students to draw representations of fractions, and then solve the problems using models to find common denominators. \u00a0Just like last night, we have done the first problem together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/AddingSubtractingFractionsMar6.pdf\">AddingSubtractingFractionsMar6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In language arts we are focusing more on themes, and starting our little foray into poetry. \u00a0We talked about how to summarize what is going on in a poem stanza by stanza, and how this can help us to determine a poem&#8217;s theme. \u00a0This is especially helpful when the poems contain a great deal of figurative language.<\/p>\n<p>The students have two poems to summarize and identify the theme of. \u00a0One we did in class, and the other is for homework. \u00a0Many students did very well on this, and managed to get theirs done during our homework\/read aloud time. \u00a0It wouldn&#8217;t hurt to look back over, however, and especially to think over their chosen theme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/PoemSummaryMar6.pdf\">PoemSummaryMar6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In science we went over our quiz from last week, and I was very impressed with their overall achievement. \u00a0We had a bit of a snag talking about gravity &#8211; some students are still having trouble with the concept that everything has gravity. \u00a0The Earth is pulling on us, but we are also pulling ever so slightly on the Earth. \u00a0We also had to go over the fact that gravity affects all objects equally, regardless of mass. \u00a0We watched a neat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kfhe-GxtZvc\">mythbusters video<\/a> about it. \u00a0Feel free to take a look!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>tldr;<\/p>\n<p>One math worksheet &#8211; students must draw representational models!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/AddingSubtractingFractionsMar6.pdf\">AddingSubtractingFractionsMar6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two poems &#8211; summarized and theme identified!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrpottersclassroom.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/PoemSummaryMar6.pdf\">PoemSummaryMar6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>35 minutes of reading, as always!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also, REMEMBER THE TALENT SHOW IS TONIGHT. \u00a0If you would like to come out and watch some of our students put on a great show, come on out &#8211; the show starts at 6:00!<\/p>\n<p>Have a good night, and HOPEFULLY I will see everyone tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Mr. Potter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another full day of school. \u00a0I could get used to this. \u00a0The weather forecast says rain tonight, but above freezing. \u00a0Keep your fingers crossed for us please!
