Clayton Day 11 (Mon 12.12.2016)

Today we began a *lot* of work.

This week students will be given freedom to choose when they do their work.  Each day will be divided into three rotations, and they will choose what work they will do each day.  They have three major things to be working on:

Project:

Students should be writing their addition word problem and working on their script.  These are due by Thursday, but I would love to see students beginning their filming starting Wednesday.  More information and requirements can be found in google classroom.

Here is an example video

Packet:

Students today received a packet that covers everything we have covered over the last month.  They should be working on this daily and have it finished by Friday.

i-know-this-base-10

Centers:

Students have a total of 5 centers to do this week.  How and when they choose to do those centers is up to them.

Each day this week students will be working on these items.  I will be pulling small groups to go over certain concepts and ensure everyone is getting their work done and in a quality fashion.

All items are due Friday.  For more details, check the google classroom.

Have a good one,

Eagles Day 14 (Thurs 12.8.2016)

It’s already Thursday!

EVERYTHING is due tomorrow:

Note book

Examples book

Here is what they should look like at this point:

Video project (see google classroom for info)

I know this: Base 10 Math Packet

i-know-this-base-10

I would highly recommend that you come to class with ONLY your video left to finish.  You will have the entire class period tomorrow to finish this, but as some of you saw today, taping your video can be a long process.

Eagles Day 13 (Wed 12.7.2016)

Today was a LOT more work on our projects, ‘I know this’ packets, and centers.

I let students know that as it is Wednesday, I would expect them to be over half-way done with everything at this point.  That means:

less than 2 pages left to do in their packet

Their word problem and script are done

They have completed at least 3 centers

If they are not at this point, they may want to do some work outside of class.

Students should be practicing what they will be doing and saying during their addition video.  We will begin filming tomorrow!

Please make sure you look over the requirements on google classroom as well as your notes to prepare.

Have a good one,

EAGLES Day 12 (12.6.2016)

Today we continued our work on the project, packet, and centers.

At this point I would expect you to have:

2 centers finished

2 pages in the packet finished

And be putting the finishing touches on your script

Please remember that everything is due Friday at the end of class!

Have a good one,

Clayton Day 9 (12.1.2016)

Today we did quite a bit of work with our Abaci.

We learned how to represent multi digit numbers, and how to do simple addition with an abacus.

Essentially the abacus works by representing each place value as a rung.  The beads on the bottom row we will think of as ones, the second row as tens, and so on.  We may adjust this later for some more complex problems, but for now the simple whole number place values will suffice.

Tonight students have some addition problems that they should do on their abacus.  They should then write down the process they used to solve the problems on the abacus.  This is all detailed on the worksheet they received:

using-your-abacus

We did the first page together:

firstpage

Please remember that tomorrow we have a test.  This test covers more base 10 things, such as using powers of ten and expanded forms.  There will also be a question or two asking you to convert/figure out a base.  Finally there will be 4 questions that ask you to use your abacus to perform arithmetic.

Much of the test looks like this:

And here are the answers to check:
